Beer from its origins to today
It is a proven historical fact that Sumerians, Assyrians, Babylonians and Egyptians were already beer brewers around 5000 B.C. In our region, the Celts were beer brewers, whereas Southern peoples were rather devoted to wine. After the Roman Empire had collapsed, beer brewing demonstrably became a common activity from the year of 700 A.D. …

Monasteries and, later on, also sovereigns discovered that beer was a source of wealth. Therefore, brewing was monopolized to make more profit from it. In many places, brewing in the private home was already forbidden in the early stages of the developing brewing industry, and the brewing masters were committed to keep secrecy on their activities. This did not change until the European Union finally put an end to all these restrictions.

According to the German Purity Law on Beer, which was adopted in 1516, only water, malt and hop were allowed to be used for beer brewing, and on a later date, yeast was admitted as well. Today, almost any kind of beer can be brewed using Speidel’s Braumeister. Wheat, barley, spelt and rye malt are available. You will obtain the best flavour if you use hops as beer wort. But all in all, you should leave everything as natural as possible and then you will notice that your beer has the most unique taste in the world.
